Academic OneFile (Gale): Quickly access articles from a database of scholarly journals and other trusted periodicals. Best for academic research.

Agriculture (Gale OneFile): Access current and authoritative periodical content covering agriculture and its related fields.

American Ancestors: Access to this resource is only available in the Library building. AmericanAncestors.org provides access to 1.4+ billion records spanning the United States, the British Isles, continental Europe, and beyond, including one of the most extensive online collections of early American genealogical records, the largest searchable collection of published genealogical research journals and magazines, and the only online source for records from Boston’s Catholic Archdiocese.

AncestryLibrary: Access to this resource is only available in the Library building. A genealogy database allowing users to research their family history. It includes access to Census records, Vital Records, military records, and immigration records as well as other documents.

Boston Public Library eCard: Anyone who lives, works, or goes to school in Massachusetts can register for a free Boston Public Library eCard at bpl.org/ecard and gain access to a wide range of digital resources covering newspapers, magazines, streaming media, genealogy, and more.

Boston Public Library Online Resources: Access these online resources using your Boston Public Library card or eCard. Anyone who lives, works, or goes to school in Massachusetts can register for a free Boston Public Library eCard at bpl.org/ecard and gain access to a wide range of digital resources covering newspapers, magazines, streaming media, genealogy, and more.

Britannica Escolar (K-8): (En español) The new Britannica® Escolar allows students to complete their homework using thousands of articles, images, multimedia assets, and detailed maps. Students can also enjoy a variety of useful learning tools developed by education experts. (In Spanish. Intended for students in grades K-8.)

Britannica Escolar: Primaria (K-5): (En español) Articles, images, multimedia assets, and detailed maps in Spanish. These materials are designed for elementary school students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.

Britannica Escolar: Secundaria (6-8): (En español) Articles, images, multimedia assets, and detailed maps in Spanish. These materials are designed for middle school students in 6th through 8th grade.

Britannica Fundamentals: A website for children in Pre K through grade 2. It contains books, games, videos, and drawing tools. Topics covered include numbers, letters, shapes, biomes, and more.

Britannica Library Children: A database for children containing articles, videos, images, and more. It includes biographies, information on animals, and maps. Two reading levels are available and a dictionary is attached to look up words in English or translate them to Spanish.

Britannica Library Reference Center: Articles, images, videos, biographies and more for adults. The database also includes quotes, an atlas, and comparisons between different countries.

Britannica Library Suite: A database containing articles, images, videos and more. This database can be translated into 80 languages and is connected to a dictionary so that you can look up words as you go. It also offers three different reading level settings so that it can be used by both adults and children in different grade levels.

Britannica Library Young Adults: Articles, pictures, videos, biographies and more with an emphasis on topics of interest to young adults.

Britannica School Edition (K-12): A link to databases containing resources for elementary, middle, and high school students.

Britannica School: Elementary School Edition: A database for children containing articles, videos, images, and more. It includes biographies, information on animals, and maps. Two reading levels are available and a dictionary is attached to look up words in English or translate them to Spanish. The site also lists Lexile levels and curriculum standards to help teachers use materials in lessons.

Britannica School: High School Edition: A database for high school students containing articles, images, videos, biographies and more. This site also includes lesson plans for teachers and materials can be browsed by curriculum standard.

Britannica School: Middle School Edition: Articles, pictures, videos, biographies and more for middle school students. It also contains primary sources. There are lesson plans for teachers and materials can be browsed by the curriculum standard that they fill.

Business (Gale OneFile): Understand the activities of companies and industries worldwide through leading business and trade publications. Updated daily.

MassHire Career Services and Planning: A website from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This site will connect job seekers and employers with the information that they need. Additionally, the site gives information on training programs, job postings, and materials to determine what type of job you would like. Veterans, people receiving unemployment, and individuals with disabilities can learn about programs for which they qualify.

MassLINKS: Adult Education Online Academy An adult education program for Massachusetts residents that is online and free. It offers ESL/ESOL classes and classes to prepare for GED/HiSet exams. After you complete an inquiry form you will be contacted by someone from the program. The program can also provide assistance with WiFi and technology if necessary.

Melrose High School Yearbooks: The first yearbook was called The Whatnot (1925). The yearbook’s name changed annually until 1929. It was called The Record (1926), The Highlight (1927), The Spotlight (1928), and finally named The Log in 1929. The Melrose Public Library now offers online access to most yearbook volumes (1925-2022) thanks in part to the Boston Public Library Digital Commonwealth project. Yearbooks are part of the Internet Archive founded in 1996, a non-profit digital repository offering permanent access to millions of free books and more that exist in digital format.
