Computer & Internet Use

The Library offers 11 public desktop computers and 12 in-house use only laptops. These computers are all running Windows 11 and have Microsoft Office 2016. Also, they have access to the Internet.  You will need your library card number or a guest pass to use a desktop computer and a library card number and pin to checkout a laptop from the self-checkout kiosk. One-hour guest passes are available at the Reference Desk and at the desk in the Children’s Room.

All users with a library card can reserve a computer for the same day at the library (no reservations can be made over the phone or online) or may use a computer on a first come, first served basis. A reservation can be made at the Reference Desk or the desk in the Children’s Room. Each user is allowed a maximum of 6 hours per day on a computer (the first hour is uninterrupted, with additional time allotted in 30 minute increments depending on availability).

Additionally, there is an express computer station that can be used for 15 minutes with no option for more time. You will need your library card number or a guest pass to use this PC. It is running Windows 11 and has Microsoft Office 2016. The express station has Internet access.

Wireless Access
Wireless Internet is available throughout the building. Patrons can access it with their own devices or with a library owned device.

Printing
All library computers are connected to a printer. Black and white printing is $0.15 per page and color printing is $0.25 per page. Payment must be made in cash. Patrons must use the paper provided by the library. Letter and legal size paper are available.

The library also offers remote printing. Patrons can send print jobs using their own device from anywhere with Internet access. Print jobs can be sent using the Princh app, via a web browser, or via email. To print using a web browser go to https://print.princh.com/?pid=109318. To print via email, send your print job as an attachment to melrose-bw@ewprints.com (for black & white) or to melrose-color@ewprints.com (for color). Emails with attachments will transmit as one print job with multiple files. Please note: Google files (docs, slides, sheet, etc.) will need to be downloaded to PDF or other recognized file types before printing. Files as links in the body of the email will not print.

Print jobs will need to be printed on the day they are sent. The printers will will turn off 15 minutes before the library closes. The library is not responsible for unsuccessful transmission of remote print jobs.
