Story Walk
Join us for a unique storytelling event on Friday, June 26th for preschoolers and their parents! We will meet at Cedar Park on West Emerson St. at 10:30 a.m. We will enjoy the story, If You Plant a Seed by Kadir Nelson as we make our way to the library, where there will be a fun craft awaiting us.

 

 

Baby Steps
This program introduces babies ages 0-18 mos. and their caregivers to the library and the wonderful world of books! Join us for 30 minutes of finger plays, rhymes, lap songs, stories and fun. Baby Steps will be held on
Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m.
Registration is not required.
Dates include:
July 7th, July 14th, July 21st, and July 28th

Story Time!
Story Time is a program for children ages 2-5 years old. Story Time includes stories, songs, and finger plays. It is approximately 45 minutes long. Story Time will be held on Friday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Special guest Dara VanRemoortel will join us on July 24th!
Registration is not required.
Dates include:
July 10th, July 17th, July 24th, and July 31st

Basket and Blanket Family Concert Series
Pack your picnic basket, grab a blanket and join us for a
fantastic concert series. All shows will be on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at either the Melrose Public Library Lawn or The Beebe Estate Lawn. In case of rain, the show will be held at the First Congregational Church on West Foster St. (Food is not allowed in the Church).

KINDERGARTEN THROUGH SECOND GRADE

BAM, POW, READ Wednesdays!
This is a registered program for children in grades K-2.
Discover your super powers through crafts, stories, physical
activities and fun! Each week will showcase a different super

Kidstock Children’s Theater Group
Kidstock! Theater Co. from Winchester presents “Onstage with Max & Suzy” a live interactive theater performance for ages 3 and older.
Audience members get “in on the act” and learn to “play right “and share their imagination. Come enjoy the show on July 13th at 10:30 a.m. Registration is not necessary for this program.

Lego Thursdays

Lego lovers unite! Drop in on Thursday mornings from 10-11:30 a.m. beginning July 9th-August 6th and show off your amazing Lego talents! Each week there will be a different Lego challenge for you to master. Registration is not necessary.

Read to Dewey the Therapy Dog!

“Bone” up on your reading skills this summer! Dewey, a certified therapy dog, loves to listen to stories and he will be at the library on Thursday nights from 6-7 p.m. Anyone wishing to read a story to Dewey can sign up for a ten minute time slot. Dewey will be at the library on July 16th, July 30th, August 6th and August 13th.

Superhero Movie Nights!
End your day at the library with your family and friends by
enjoying one of these “Super” movies! We will be showing these films Mondays at 6 p.m. This program is recommended for 8 and up accompanied by an adult. All movies are rated PG. Registration is not necessary for this program.Book Man copy

What’s in the Trash? Writer’s Workshop with local author Jen Malone

On Tuesday, July 14th from 2:30-4 p.m. participants will have the opportunity to pick through a “stranger’s” trashcan (no smelly banana peels-promise!) Piecing together crumpled letters, movie ticket stubs and a slew of other items, they will use those scraps to write a short script or piece of fiction about the character they’ve glimpsed. For grades 3-5.

Create Your Own Superhero!Super Book Woman 2 copy

Have you ever wondered what you would look like as a superhero? Now you have the chance! Join us on Tuesday, July 21st at 2:30 as artist Christian Whitton instructs the class on how to draw a superhero based on themselves with colored pencils. Walk-a-Long Gliders with Phil Rossoni

Build and pilot your own Walk-a-Long Glider on Tuesday, July 28th at 2 p.m. ! It’s a fun way to explore STEM topics in aviation by learning how to fly your own plane!

Snack Pack!

Calling all book lovers in the 4th & 5th grade! You are invited to participate in the library’s monthly book discussion group. The library provides the books and the snacks. Children entering 4th grade in the fall are invited to participate! We will discuss The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate on Thursday, June 25th from 3-4 p.m. Other dates include– July 30th and August 20th. Books are available to checkout at the library.

 

Yak, Snack, and Read!

Have you been a member of Snack Pack and want to continue in a book group? Are you in middle school and want to try something new? Come to the Yak, Snack, and Read Club on Tuesday, June 30th at 5 pm. We will be discussing The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. Other dates include- Tuesday, July 28th and Tuesday, August 18th. Books are available in the Children’s Room. Bring a friend!

Pizza will be served.

FUN FOR ALL AGES!

Super Hero Egg Drop Competition

Can you and your team create a Super Hero themed contraption that will save a raw egg as it is dropped from the top floor windows of the library? Find out on Tuesday, egg pictureAugust 4th at 6 p.m. Registration forms are available at the library. Teams must register by July 31st. The library will supply the eggs!

 

 

 

 

Jim Cruise “The Spoon Man”spoon-man

Don’t miss this hilarious interactive family program for all ages on Wednesday, August 5th at 6 p.m. “The Spoon Man” has been playing spoons for twenty-three years. Jim’s program contains several outrageous impressions, an audience sing-a-long competition, and an interactive Mountain Band concert. Summer Reading Ice Cream Celebration!

Participants in the library’s Summer Reading Club are invited to the delicious event outside on Wednesday, August 12th at 2 pm on the lawn of the library. In the event of rain, the ice cream social will be held on Friday, August 14th at 2 pm.
